About this Collection
Sooner or later all soil needs a helping hand to ensure vibrant, healthy plant growth. Whether the pH needs to be raised or lowered, specific nutrients are low or missing, or unwanted visitors are plaguing your garden, check with us to see if we can help. If you are looking for new soil for your project, please visit our Soils page for a full listing of available products.
Compost
Our compost contains a nutritious blend made exclusively from composted yard trimmings and food scraps. This is a Class A compost that contains ZERO biosolids! This compost is screened to 3/8″ and is created under strict controls and testing to create a fine, very fertile media that can be used for blending-in with existing on-site soils to improve organic content, soil structure, water retention, soil nutrients, and plant root health.
Blood Meal
Blood meal is an excellent source of organic nitrogen which is readily available when plants need it most. It can help repel some undesirable garden visitors such as deer and rabbits.
Bone Meal
Bone meal is a great source of phosphorus which plants require for the production of flowers and strong root systems. It helps produce higher yields of seeds and fruits, assists in healthy, thick growth, and provides resistance to diseases and pests.
Diatomatious Earth
Diatomatious earth acts as a non-toxic alternative to pest control for insects that crawl on plants and is also used as a desiccant and deodorizer for areas that are excessively moist. It primarily works through dehydration. PLEASE protect your pollinators and avoid using directly on flowers.
Fertilizer
When looking at fertilizers remember the phrase “up, down, and all around” to determine what ratio of ingredients is best suited for your particular gardening needs. Fertilizers primarily supply three main nutrients Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K) with additional micro nutrient suppliements depending on formulation. The fertilizer number – for example 6-8-6 – provides the percentage of the main three nutrients in the package by weight. The first number refers to the nitrogen content of the product; nitrogen promotes growth above the soil. The second number refers to the phosphorus content; phosphorus promotes growth below the soil and is also critical in the development of flower blooms and fruit production. The third number indicates the proportion of potassium; potassium is key for the development of strong cells which allow plants to thrive despite the stresses of the natural environment. The balance of the composition of any fertilizer will include micro nutrients and filler material used to assist in the distribution of the product.
Moss Control
Moss control products can get rid of existing moss but to keep moss from coming back, the underlying issue must be resolved. Moss will take over areas that are wet, poorly drained, or that receive insufficient sunlight for your grass. Once you have eliminated the existing moss in your lawn, to prevent it from regrowing, condition your soil to improve drainage, keep your lawn at the highest recommended height for your type of grass, and plant shade tolerant varieties of grass in areas that get less than ideal lighting.
