Basalt Treads and Risers

Natural stone materials make for the best treads and risers. The rich variety of colours, textures, and shapes make unforgettable impressions. It’s a timeless addition to the natural state of any garden or landscape project, and follows the character you set – either grand or subdued – for your garden.

Basalt Split Treads and Risers are ideal for one piece steps or can be used side by side to create stunning natural transitions between elevations. These are machine-split, mostly dark grey in colour with brown and taupe variations.

Pennsylvania bluestone treads are remarkably unique in character – straight out of the earth’s crust – with beautiful natural hues in reds, oranges, blues, greens, rusts. The earth’s stratification pressures determines the mix of colour and its effect is stunning! This is a natural sandstone at it’s best.

Plan ahead - some of these stones can weigh up to 350 pounds each! Talk to us about what you'll need for on-site equipment to move these rocks around safely. Please note that although we provide an approximate cost per square foot, we always emphasize that this number is only an estimate. Spacing between stones, once laid, can greatly affect the square foot coverage. Varying thicknesses from load to load can also change the coverage as well.
