Most of our bulk materials have a large volume price, either offered per tonne or as a percentage discount. This price is offered when you order large amounts of material (~14 tonnes or 12+ yards) and have it delivered in our tandem-axle dump truck. You can find all of the details here.
You’ve seen it on your favourite golf course as the gravel on the golf cart paths – now the same great chips are available for your own yard!
Cart Path Chip is an excellent blend of 1/4” minus rock full of loose material that compacts to a tough base. Because this material packs tightly it is ideal for garden pathways: comfortable to walk on, and easy to push a fully loaded wheelbarrow on top of.
For those golfers out there, this is THE product that builds the firm base under our artificial grass putting green kits. Yes, your oasis awaits!
Subject to availability. Minimum order 5 yards – NOT stocked in Nanaimo yard.
Medium to coarse grind. Very soft (spongy) underfoot: excellent for natural pathways and damp areas. This chip is aromatic and due to the natural oils in cedar, the chip rots very slowly compared to other mulched wood products – and this helps to create a durable long-lasting natural ground layer.
Excellent for slopes and due to the coarser nature (than bark mulch) this cedar mulch is less prone to moving around in windy areas.
We DO NOT recommend using this as a mulch on planting beds because the oils can harm/inhibit landscape plant growth. Used appropriately, however, it is an excellent weed controller!
New Product for Spring 2018
This gravel features the same coloration as our larger 3/4” fracture. Crushed 1/2” clear can be used for garden pathways, gravel driveways, and in conjunction with weed-barrier fabric – a general groundcover in landscaping. It is also a great material for packing in around wood-fence post installations to help with drainage and keep wet dirt off of the posts. This helps to help slow rotting of buried posts. Due to it’s angular nature this is a good packing material that also still drains freely due to the lack of fines – also great for wet areas in the landscape. A truly versatile product.
Dollar for dollar, our 1” Dark Fractured is one of the best values in our yard. It offers a consistent olive-grey colour normally found in more expensive decorative stones.
From the same quarry as our other dark fractures this product offers a larger scale version suitable for larger ground cover installations. Also a great construction gravel used to “tighten up” wet sub-bases in preparation for further building.
The loosely-graded 1/2” Dark Fractured stone is perfect for landscaping walkways, loose patios, or as an inexpensive ground-cover for that extra parking space. Colour is a consistent olive-grey.
The most common driveway gravel, Driveway Chips are a 3/8” minus rock full of loose material that compacts into a tough base.
This product is great for any project that needs a compact chip – driveways, parking spaces, and pathways are all perfect candidates for Driveway Chip.
A consistent 3/4” in size, our Fractured granite rock works well as a slightly loose pathway or driveway gravel, and does provide some drainage as well.
Fractured Rock is commonly used for “cleaning up” areas, and provides a great balance of price and aesthetics.
New Product for Spring 2018
A clear-crush gravel with minimal fines, and composed of unique light colored (white with black specks) salt and pepper granite with some tan colored highlights. This is a rarely-seen gravel that is worthy of any landscape installation. Due to the smaller crush-size this gravel works for walkways installations just as well as it does for ground-cover. Used properly, this gravel will add the “wow” back into any landscape.
New Product for Spring 2018
Offering a different look than the smaller granite pearl above. This larger scale gravel looks just as good and accents any landscape flawlessly with the natural light coloration that only true granite can offer. Likely best used for larger ground-cover installation.
The 3/4” Village Creek limestone mixture is great for covering large areas with a bit of pizzazz – this colourful stone is a beautiful accent choice as well.
Slightly larger – and a little harder to shovel – than the 3/4”, our 1–1/2” Drain Rock is another great option for either drainage or decoration. It also provides slightly better drainage than the 3/4”.
A standard, round rock used for drainage – 3/4” Drain Rock also works well for making natural looking decorative areas, such as river beds.
Try mixing with the 2”–12” River Rock!
The standard gravel for exposed aggregate concrete and playgrounds, Pea Gravel is a “soft”, round rock, about 1/2” in diameter.
And because it’s so loose, Pea Gravel is not usually recommended for pathways – unless you’re planning on being barefoot most of the time!
Perfect for landscaping projects wanting that “natural look”, our 2”–12” River Rock takes your dry riverbed to the next level! Equally great for covering large decorative areas or using a few rocks here and there to add some size contrast to your landscape.
Pro tip: combine the River Rock with both sizes of Drain Rock to achieve that authentic riverbed look!
A coarse, general purpose sand. Great for bedding water pipe or irrigation lines in trenches, turning into sand bags, and laying underneath paving stones.
Because it’s coarse, Bedding Sand will not compact, and is not suitable for sandboxes – try the Masonry Sand instead.
A washed, coarse sand – generally used in the creation of concrete. Since Concrete Sand is similar in consistency to the Bedding Sand, it also works for filling and levelling.
When paired with cement, our fine, washed Masonry Sand is ideal for grouting or brick laying, or for levelling inflatable pools.
And since it’s clean and fine, Masonry Sand works great in sandboxes – the kids will love it!
From the same quarry as our popular 3/4” fractured rock, this product offers a larger scale version with the same coloring. This material can be hand-placed, however, due to the larger size of this rock a machine such as a bobcat loader is advised for placement as larger rocks are simply harder to hand-shovel. Uses include ground-cover for larger scale installation and “tightening up” of poor or damp sub-soils in preparation for further building or overlay with road-base material on top such as for a driveway installation.
If you’re looking for an economical material to be used as non-structural fill, our Fill Material is a great option. Please note that Fill Material does not adhere to any technical specification, and as such it is not recommended for any structural applications.
As it sounds – ground up asphalt that is screened to 3/4” minus material. Should be placed at about 3” depth on a prepared sub-base of 3/4” road base. This can then provide an excellent gravel roadway material, say, for a long gravel driveway installation. Best placed, smoothed out, and then compacted. R.A.P. will initially seem “a little soft” but once it is weathered – rained on and the sun bakes it – this gravel will harden up and create a great, durable surface. NOT an asphalt replacement, however, this gravel does have the unique benefit of VERY minimal dust due to the bit of residual oil in the gravel mixture that “locks up” the fines and prevents them from blowing around.
Road Base is built to pack. A dense mixture of rock and sand made for strong, hard-packing bases, Road Base is perfect for use under paving stones (under the bedding sand layer), retaining wall blocks, poured concrete slabs, or roadways.
This product is also commonly referred to as ‘3/4” Minus’, ‘3/4” Crush’, or ‘Road Pack’.
Similar to our 3/4” road base, but with larger rocks. This is the same material used to build up strength under road-ways and highways in preparation for topping off with 3/4” road base. Suitable anywhere a large depth of good structural fill is required in preparation for further building such as around house foundations, under driveways, and concrete slabs. This material has the added benefit of being a “tight” material but still freely draining – something that simply cannot be found with standard clay/dirt backfill on a jobsite.
Black Garden Mix is our highest quality soil, featuring a rich mixture of peat, chicken manure, and soil.
Perfect for flower beds and vegetable gardens alike – just add plants and bone meal!
New Product for Spring 2018
Offering a blend of good quality topsoil mixed with sand and chicken manure this is a cost-effective alterative to our ever-popular black garden mix.
Similar to our Garden Soil, our Premium-Grade Lawn Top Soil also features chicken manure, peat, and soil, but has a higher content of fine sand.
The addition of sand improves drainage, and makes it easy to spread in thin layers – a perfect choice for establishing or top-dressing lawns.
The screened topsoil is ideal and economical for filling the bottom of large garden beds, or planting hardy vegetation, and you can always mix it to make your own garden soil.
Dark Bark is a 2-year composted fir/hemlock bark mulch with a rich, dark-brown (nearly black) colour.
Priced right in between the Fir Bark Mulch and the Fish Compost, it’s great for your garden and your wallet!
Our cedar-free bark mulch is a rich mixture of reds and browns. The medium/fine size chips are made up of a mixture of fir and hemlock. Great as a garden-topper: helps retain moisture and gives a clean, tidy look.
A nutritious mixture of fish-offal, sawdust, and soils, our Fish Compost is a beautiful rich black, and works brilliantly in place of bark mulch.
Our Fish Compost is also certified by the Organic Materials Review Institute.
