Bin # 17
Produced by us.
A well structured, nutritious soil suitable for both turf or seed lawn starts.
We have seen excellent results with this soil!
Adding a pelletized ‘seed and sod starter’ fertilizer will further help establish initial seed or sod development. And please remember when planting from seed, make sure to keep the young grass shoots damp once sprouted with three light waterings per day: morning – noon – and early evening, until your lawn is well rooted in.
We test our soils! Yes, this soil closely meets the 2H planting medium requirements for “high-traffic-lawn” as outlined in the B.C. Landscape Society Spec.
*PLEASE NOTE – Turf soil is NOT a “top-dress” material per se. Top dress materials contain a MUCH higher content of sand which will NOT meet the BC Landscape Spec. If you have the patience to work through and break up some clumps of compost with your rake, our turf soil CAN be used very effectively as a top dress. Easiest to rake out and level for a topdress: our bedding sand or masonry sand, combined with our pelletized fertilizer. It is a trade-off: do you want to topdress a lawn in a way that requires less maintenance longer term, but is a bit more difficult to install intially? Or, do you want a top-dress material that is easier to spread and install but does not perform as well? The compost in our turf soil holds onto nutrients and water well. Topdressing with sand only, is going to INCREASE the amount of water and pelletized fertilizer required (think golf-course) to keep your lawn green through the heat of Summer.
